Since then, his daily writings have been a go-to resource for my own questions as to the intersections, multiplications, super-positions (etc. etc.) of the visual and the textual.

So when vol. 6 turned out to think 'space,' Geof was someone I knew I needed to contact for the issue. Thankfully, Geof offered P-Queue a fantastic piece thinking visual poetry and his own practices of it, as well as a series of 'fidgetglyphs' (you'll have to check them out to see what, exactly, these are!), and a manuscript of 'eyechart poems' that the press put out in chapbook form.

As I wrote to Geof a short while ago, these eyechart poems especially have added to my thinking about the work of lettrism--in Geof's sequence of poems, tools of medicalized normativity (i.e. the eyechart) are twisted into their opposite: no longer a standard by which one is measured, but rather a horizon of possibility. Interaction with these pieces gives one much to think about, and a timely, wry twist to all the anxiety that seems to be in the air these days about a "public" health option...

Thanks, Geof!

A note of thanks for all those who made our BOOG reading so wonderful:

Dear all-

Thanks so much for being part of such a wonderful evening at BOOG City! In addition to a number of collaborative pieces (variously conceived), quite a few of these contributions are working through images, notebook samples, and other exciting challenges to the journal’s page.

We’ll also be continuing the chapbook series (Queue) that we began with Volume 4 and the wonderful father-daughter collaboration of Richard and Michelle Taransky, The Plans Caution. P-Queue is interested in 'hybrid' work—what toggles between poetry & prose, critical & creative, "academic" & "non-academic," the visual & the written.

For Vol. 5 (the first in our second series!), we're especially interested in the question of "care."

To this end, we'll be more inclined to consider collaborations, conversations, collocations, correspondences, and the like. These are of course loosely and widely interpretable, but what we want is a representation of ways of being together in language, ways of being in language together.

Consider:
-selections from letters ('literary' or otherwise)
-conversations (recorded, repeated, replayed, etc.)
-collaboration: in composition, in editing: work that widens the scene of writing, the scene of reading
-collocation: the prosodic or the rhetorical: work that calls us to it, calls us together to space created

And as always, we’re looking to question genre and convention (and to question the _questioning_ of genre & convention!).

Our covers are (lovingly, care-fully) letterpressed, the journal often include images and 'manipulated' texts, and we pride ourselves on the appearance of the publication. P-Queue is published annually (the 2008 yearbook will appear in May). To receive full consideration, please try to submit work by Jan. 1.

See also www.p-queue.org!

******************
******************

P-Queue has finally come home!

After launches in LA and Chicago, it's a great pleasure to finally thank all who read at our launch this past weekend. The volume has been a long time coming; suffice it to say (only the most recent hurdle) that an error somewhere between the printer’s and the bindery resulted in all of our handpressed covers being bound around an incompletely printed journal. After a harrowing drive to Toronto for our (as it turns out, one-of-a-kind!) coverstock, a dusk-to-dawn session in our letterpress room, two days for drying time, and a hand-off (yet again) of complete covers to be bound around our journal, our books are finally here!

Be sure to visit us in Chicago this week (8/16), Los Angeles at the end of August (8/24), or Buffalo in the last week of September (9/28) as we celebrate the release of P-Queue in a multi-city launch! Powell’s North (among the most interesting reading series and venues in the city of Chicago) has agreed to host the Chicago-area launch for P-Queue, vol. 4. Please join us at Powell’s on Thursday, August 16th for readings by Chicago-area writers appearing in the journal. A tentative program includes:

Meg Barboza

Elizabeth Cross

David Driscoll

Michael Robbins

Jordan Stempleman

Michelle Taransky

If you haven’t seen vols. 1 – 3, a few copies of each will be on hand, as well as the brand new vol. 4, in freshly letterpressed wrappers with a rather distinguished series of bronze dots along the spine.

The work from these authors in our journal is stunning, and varies tremendously in range and tone—each writer wholly him- or herself and unlike the others.

Check back periodically for a list of confirmed readers as the date approaches. It promises to be an exciting evening for the eyes and ears.

Pre-Production: Vol. 4

P-Queue, vol. 4, is soon to go to print. Volume 4 will be available in late summer to contributors and reviewers (if you'd like to write a review, please find contact information for P-Queue below and to the right), and will be available for sale in early fall.

Vol. 4 marks a transition for us at P-Queue. Our founding editor, Sarah Campbell, has handed off the journal after three years at the helm. We're hoping to meet the consistently high production values that Sarah established with vols. 1 - 3, while we yet expand both the reach and focus of the journal.

This site, for one, is new, and we'll be using it to bring together past and present contributors as well as to broaden our base of readers. Periodically, we'll post notice about calls for work, readings and book launches, links to reviews and other sites of interest, and we'll also publicize a few new projects that we'll be carrying out under the imprint of P-Queue.
